13th Annual Clean Up Day
June 17, 2016
On Friday, April 30th, 2016 a wonderful group of volunteers came together for the Warehouse District’s 13th annual Clean Up Day. In only 4 hours, 3.97 metric tonnes of waste was successfully cleared from businesses, streets, and alleys in the community.
In total, 3 Loraas disposal bins at a length of roughly 30 yards each were emptied into the City of Regina landfill for this year’s spring cleanup event. This was an increase in comparison to the 3.4 tonnes that was taken in from last year’s Clean Up Day.
The format of this year’s spring cleanup was revised to accommodate for growing needs and to broaden our efforts. For this year’s spring cleanup, businesses were encouraged to collect garbage and unwanted supplies and bring them to the main staging area where volunteers were available to assist with unloading garbage into bins. Volunteers from the North Central Family Centre were on-site selling hot dogs, pop, and chips to hungry participants.
Thank you to Bob Schlosser and Terry Meier for allowing us to use the Sears semi lot as our meeting spot once again, Shaun Machdanz at the City of Regina Landfill, Loraas Disposal, Quality Tire, as well as a big thank you to all of our volunteers who made this initiative possible: Sarah McRaven, David Lerat, Heike Doerksen, and Councillor Wade Murray who all sit on the Warehouse District’s Board of Directors; The Warehouse District Clean Up Crew from the North Central Family Centre; Sandy Doran and Joshua Kurkjian, Warehouse District staff.
We look forward to next year!
