What is The Warehouse District?Regina’s Warehouse District is a business improvement district, covering 80 blocks of the Queen City, within the boundaries of Albert St. to Winnipeg St. and 4th Ave to the CPR tracks. The Warehouse District is home to both modern and historic Chicago-style buildings, which were built in the early 1900's. Chicago-style architecture was the birth of the skyscraper, which uses internal columns rather than exterior walls to provide support, thus allowing taller buildings to be erected. The internal structural frame of the buildings allowed large, free expanses to form in their interiors, large window openings created ample natural lighting. Due to the massive scale, tremendous structural strength, many windows, and high ceilings in these warehouses, it has been possible to convert them for many modern uses including retail and business space, residential living, and entertainment hot spots! For more information on these magnificent buildings, go on a historical walking tour.
