New to the District: Brewed Awakening!
October 24, 2016
The Warehouse District is pleased to announce that local coffee retailer Brewed Awakening has opened its sixth location at 2300 Dewdney Avenue!
Established in 2011, Brewed Awakening’s continued growth and success throughout Regina is a testament to the business’ winning strategy of offering high- quality coffee products while at the same time creating a positive social impact through ethical sourcing practices.
“I just took that leap of faith and persevered through the hard times,” says co-owner Lisa MacMurchy reminiscing on the business’ rapid growth and expansion, particularly over the past year. When asked about her approach to becoming an entrepreneur, Lisa enthusiastically states “I just simply dove into it.”
Born and raised in Regina, Lisa brings to the table a wealth of knowledge and experience. Prior to establishing Brewed Awakening, Lisa cut her teeth for many years in the restaurant and food services industry, starting out as a server at Dairy Queen during her formative years. Eventually she would transition out of the food services industry with a 15 year stint in advertising at the Regina Leader Post before starting Mrs. Mac’s Cookies with her husband Ken.
Lisa’s long-standing passion for specialty coffee and gourmet food came to fruition approximately seven years ago. Brewed Awakening opened its flagship location in East Regina to much fanfare in 2011. The business currently employs 50 people and has additional locations in Campion College, Hill Avenue, Harbour Landing, and Gordon Road. Complementing Lisa and her husband’s efforts on the management side of things is master baker Linda Little.
From the beginning, Brewed Awakening has strived to offer high-quality specialty coffee and gourmet baked goods at competitive prices topped off with a memorable customer experience. The company is an independent and locally-owned retailer that places great importance on freshness. Brewed Awakening takes the utmost pride in preparing their food products in-house from scratch to ensure the highest standards of quality control. Lending credence to their commitment to ethical and socially beneficial business practices is their partnership with suppliers whose products are independently certified as organic, as well as designated fair trade and beyond.
Lisa and the management team at Brewed Awakening were inspired to expand into the Warehouse District so as to fulfill an untapped demand for a premium quality specialty coffee shop in an area of the city that they felt was currently being underserved by the market. The company is also excited about the prospect of redevelopment taking place in the former CP railyard and feel that the timing to move into the neighbourhood couldn’t have been better!
