Bios

DJ Ageless

Hailing from Regina via Montreal, DJ Ageless has always believed that music is a never-ending pursuit. It’s an ongoing learning experience—you can never know it all—but he’s having the time of his life trying, and that’s what keeps his devotion to the art. No matter the genre, his focus is always on one thing—the vibe.

DJ Patty Blue

A lover of live music and records, Patty Blue can be found hauling crates around to various settings to create a vibe and fuel dance floors. Often equipped with an abundance of ever so sweet pieces of round black wax, the contents of which span decades and geographies, you're bound to have your ears feeling refreshed and perhaps with a new favourite earworm or two.

Elder Betty McKenna

Elder Betty McKenna touches others profoundly by generously sharing the traditional teachings she has learned from her grandmother and other elders. Anishnabae from the Shoal River Band in Manitoba, she reviews content for the Canadian Virtual Hospice website and provides guidance from an Aboriginal point of view.

Elder Betty is the Elder in Residence, First Nations and Métis Education at the Regina Public School Board, as well as the guiding elder for RESOLVE (Research and Education to End Violence and Abuse) Saskatchewan. She also provides leadership to many research projects concerned with culturally safe care for Aboriginal people and families – from end-of-life care to support for Aboriginal women with neurological conditions to intimate partner violence and Aboriginal grandmothers caring for grandchildren. Elder Betty is co-author of several peer-reviewed publications and sits on two graduate committees at the University of Regina.

Jayda Delorme

JAYDA DELORME is a Nehiyaw (Cree) artist from Cowessess First Nation here in Treaty 4 Territory. Jayda takes great pride in expressing Indigenous identity through art, dance, and community organizing. In addition to being a traditional powwow dancer, her artistic practice includes beading, painting, henna tattooing, body painting, and community-based projects. She has competed internationally at the World Body Painting Festival in Austria, where she placed in the top half of the Amateur division. Jayda is currently a student at the University of Regina in the Faculty of Media, Arts, and Performance.

Jayda Delorme’s art practice often involves bringing people together, melding the roles of artist, performer, and organizer. For Frost Fest, Jayda has coordinated a special dance program that will celebrate the art of powwow dancing. The first performance highlights the women’s jingle dress dance, known to be a healing dance. A second performance will feature all three women’s pow wow dance categories: jingle dress, fancy shawl and traditional. Each dance has a significant meaning and teaching that will be shared before each performance.

Jess Richter

JESS RICHTER is a German-Canadian artist, curator, and arts administrator based in Regina, Saskatchewan (Treaty 4 Territory). Her practice includes installation, site-specific work, printmaking, and drawing. She holds an MFA from the University of Regina. Influenced by British, German, and Eastern-European folk ritual and tradition, she recontextualizes these practices within contemporary Saskatchewan to explore the submerged identities of German-Canadians in post-war, rural Canada.

DIE WARNUNG explores the liminality and shallow divide between interior and exterior and cultural identity utilizing the body and house as structures to contain and reject identity. Drawing upon rich traditions of folk horror and prairie gothic, this project contrasts the interior of the house with exterior, creating tension between the two. Creating a narrative between two figures (a human figure that exists solely within the house and an otherworldly figure that exists solely outside), this film weaves together an uncertain relationship between these two entities and sees both invoking their own magic to both reach out and reject one another.

Rawry & Pohly

University of Regina Alumni Jamie Mason and Kevin Chow founded Rawry & Pohly in Regina, Saskatchewan in 2015. The husband and wife duo excel at creating artwork as a team. The motto for their practice, "celebrate your inner child," is explored through the use of mixed mediums: sculptures, canvas, prints, or drawings, all alluding to the dynamic elements of whimsy, humour, and joy. As artists, they create stylistic interpretations of modern pop art with themes of minimalism through iconic lineweight and bright, vibrant colours. A key element of their approach to visual art is encouraging play.

About the Gummy Bear Picnic Exhibition

Gummy Bears don’t hibernate in the winter, unlike their less gelatinous cousins; with a cause for celebration these four gummy friends decided to have a celebratory picnic! It’s Rainbow’s Colour Day: as every gummy knows, your colours come from what you enjoy the most. Until then, gummy bears have no colour at all.

It took Rainbow forever to find their colour, but one day Rainbow ran to the end of a rainbow and lit up like a disco ball! Now everyone is celebrating! Happy Colour Day Rainbow!

Tribal Vibes Wild Fire Productions Inc.

Tribal Vibes Wild Fire was born in 2005. Their first performance was in a field of hemp on the Saskatchewan prairies. Since that time, Tribal Vibes has had many evolutions before arriving at this place of "Tribal Fire Circus".  After all this time, their message and themes have remained the same. They tune-in to world rhythms and contemporary beats to create original and pure creative expression. They offer a message of peace, love, unity, respect, and humanity for all!

Tribal Vibes is accompanied by DJ HappyCat, one of Saskatchewan's legendary house DJs.
